Every calculator uses a published geometric or physical formula, documented on our methodology page. We do not round aggressively or use rough estimates where an exact formula exists. Worked examples in our guides are calculated with the same formulas the tools use.

Our guidance on substrate depth, stocking levels, water weight and glass thickness is based on established fishkeeping practice and standard engineering references. Where a figure is a rule of thumb rather than a hard rule, we say so plainly and explain the factors that change it.

Review and updates

Calculators and guides are reviewed periodically for accuracy and clarity, and updated when better data or feedback becomes available. Each methodology section carries a last-reviewed date so you know how current it is.
